Starting Again – Cutting It Up

It was decided that, although individual measurements often had small errors compared to the drawings, all these minor errors added up to huge errors. There were 27mm differences from one side of the chassis to the other and it had over 30mm of twist.

Our goal was to have less than 1mm error from a single fixed datum; for all measurements. By using a single datum point and taking all measurements in 3 planes, the chassis in theory should be up with a modern car.

This meant either starting from scratch or cutting away most of the chassis.

The chassis was cut off at the half way point.

Further tubes would be cut away once extra bracing had been added. There is not a lot left. Basically, just the foot-wells!
